County Boards Investigation Potential Fraud

Potential election fraud appears rampant in the case of those petitions submitted to the Secretary of State by Ohioans for Financial Freedom. Montgomery, Hardin and Allen County Boards of Elections are investigating potential election fraud on the payday lending referendum petitions. According to Allen County elections director, Keith Cunningham, the payday referendum petitions are among the worst he's ever seen.

"The petitions that were submitted on behalf of the payday lending referendum were among the worst petitions I've seen in ten years. We have clearly fraudulent petitions - forged names of people we know have been deceased as long as three to five years. We just simply believe that kind of abuse of the petition system should not be tolerated and we will prosecute those people if we get a chance to."

You can read two articles about potential election fraud across the state:

County Boards of Elections are finding submission rates below what is necessary to get the referendum on the ballot in November, but payday lenders have 10 more days to collect more signatures once Secretary of State Brunner declares the submission to be short of the 241,366 required.

While it appears that the payday lenders will garner enough signatures to get their referendum on the ballot, voters should still beware! Be sure to read what you are signing very carefully as there are continuous reports of petitioners misrepresenting the facts about the referendum!
